Graduation Celebration Committee

Purpose
The purpose of the Frederick Douglass & Mary McLeod Bethune Graduation Celebration is to provide students with a platform to celebrate their graduation in accordance with Africana cultural practice and patterns. The overall goal of the graduation celebration is to promote and affirm cultural connections and patterns within the global Africana communities.
Participation
Participation is open to all students who support and promote Africana humanity and are prepared to celebrate their graduation according to Africana cultural patterns. The dress code is cap and gown and/or Africana dress.
Planning Committee
The Committee shall be co-chaired by the chairperson of the Department of Africana Studies and University Faculty members, Staff or Administrator. The committee shall be appointed by the co-chairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
A. The Co-Chairperson Shall:
- Chair all meetings;
- Appoint all functional committee chairpersons,
- Delegate duties to committee members as deemed necessary.
- Schedule all meetings.
B. Secretary Shall:
- Record minutes for all executive committee meetings.
- Carry on correspondence with organizations on and off campus.
- Maintain all Committee files and duplicate committee files.
- Be administrative assistant to Co-Chairpersons
- Preside in the absence of the Co-Chairpersons
- Have, at all meetings, a copy of the policy and Procedures
C. The Department of Africana Studies shall serve: as the Committee Treasurer to:
- Collect all donations.
- Maintain a record of all Graduation Celebration funds.
- Be vested with a fiduciary responsibility in matters of finance of the Graduation Committee.
- Pay the Graduation Celebration bills and reimbursements.
- Be main recipient of money received at Graduation Committee functions.
D. Functional Committees:

Publication Committee [Layout and Printing]
Advertisement Committee
