Carson, CA -- Toros student-athletes from mens
and womens basketball and mens soccer teamed up to
lend a helping hand (and foot) at the inaugural Telemundo Experiencia
Deportiva in Huntington Park on May 7, holding mini-clinics
and providing some one-on-one coaching to kids of all ages.

Telemundo 52, a Spanish-language television
station, is the top source for news, entertainment and sports for
Hispanics, and reaches 93% of U.S. Hispanic households in 142
markets through its 16 owned-and-operated stations, 36 broadcast
affiliates and over 650 cable affiliates.
The event, held at Salt Lake Park, was a
complete sports experience. In addition to basketball and soccer,
athletes from the extreme sports world of skate boarding and
motocross where seen flying through the air in half pipes and off
ramps, demonstrating gravity-defying tricks and
physics-challenging stunts.
Representatives from the all Los Angeles
professional sports teams -- Galaxy, Dodgers, Lakers -- and other
cities -- Oakland Raiders, NASCAR -- also were in attendance
handing our prizes and gear to local kids. The Chivas cheerleaders
signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans, and local
businesses and food establishments positioned their respective
booths in the park.
It was great that Telemundo put
on such a positive event for the community begins womens
basketball head coach Van Girard. Not only was CSUDH honored
to be a part of it, but we were also thrilled to be able to spend
time with the kids and introduce them to Toros athletics.
Telemundo is wholly owned by NBC Universal, one
of the world's leading media and entertainment companies.
