Welcome to California State University, Dominguez Hills’ 2005-2006 academic year. We are gratified that you have chosen our campus as the place to pursue your educational goals and to prepare yourself for a productive future.

You are joining us as our new Loker Student Union takes shape before your eyes at the center of campus. It’s due to open in fall 2006 with its expanded space and services. At that time, you’ll be able to enjoy new enhanced food services, a new bookstore, an additional game room, commercial services, lounges, student organization and student government support space, meeting rooms, and a ballroom. And, it is happening because CSUDH students thought ahead to the next generation of Toros and voted “yes” on a referendum to invest in the future. That vote reflects the spirit of this campus.

CSUDH is an ethnically and culturally diverse campus – we strongly believe that such an environment provides a distinct advantage for you since upon graduation you will be entering the increasingly diverse workplace that is America. Whoever you are, you will undoubtedly find others who share your interests, your first language and your culture, but also you will have the opportunity to come to know many who are very different from you.

In addition to the connections you make in the classroom, we suggest that one of the best ways to meet others in the campus community is to get involved in Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), where you will find a broad cross section of your fellow students.

Since 1999, I have had the pleasure to share in the unique educational journey on this campus. I have always been impressed by the determination and fortitude of our students. There is a wide range of support systems in place to make your year easier, from tutors and faculty or university advisors to online research resources in the library, from counseling to résumé writing workshops. All you have to do is make the effort to find what you need and use it!

I look forward to celebrating the contributions you will make and the successes you will enjoy, and I extend a hearty welcome to each of you as you take your place here at California State University, Dominguez Hills!
