Educational Opportunities

There are a number of educational opportunities available on and off campus. We have classes that fit your interests, needs and schedule. Whether you're interested in professional development, changing your career potential, or just have an interest in a particular subject, we offer several ways you can achieve your academic pursuits.

Taking Courses at CSUDH

• Admission – A person who meets CSU admission requirements can apply for admission to the university and if accepted can enroll in classes as a regular student. Visit the Admissions and Records website for information regarding the admission application, requirements, and process.
• Open University – Open University provides an opportunity to take regular, degree-applicable courses without going through the admission process. On a space-available basis, selected undergraduate and graduate courses are open to anyone 18 years or older who meets prerequisites and has the instructor’s approval. For more information on the Open University registration process, visit the Extended Education Web site.
• Extended Education – Extended Education provides access to the University’s resources by offering degree, certificate, and credential programs and non-credit courses. Programs are offered both on-campus and at various off-campus sites. Programs are also offered via television, teleconference, the internet, and through traditional correspondence. • Audit A Class – Auditing a class is a means of taking a course for no credit. To audit a class, you must obtain the instructors approval and may be required by the instructor to participate in all classroom activities. Both an admitted/enrolled and non-admitted/enrolled persons can audit a course. Review our university regulations in the University Catalog on auditing a course.
• Cross Enrollment – Undergraduate students enrolled at a participating University of California institution or California Community College can take one course each academic term at without going through the formal admission process. Cross enrollment is on a space available basis and at a cost of $10 per term. Review our Cross Enrollment Conditions and Guidelines.
• Intrasystem Programs - Students enrolled at any CSU campus have access to course at other CSU campuses on a space available basis unless those campuses or programs are impacted. This access is offered without going through the formal admission process and sometimes without paying additional fees. One program is called CSU Concurrent Enrollment in which a student takes classes at both their home campus and a host campus. The other program is called CSU Visitor Enrollment in which a student enrolls at a host campus for one term. • Distance Learning - CSU Dominguez Hills offers students an opportunity to earn eight academic degrees and five certificates without ever coming to campus. Courses are taught using online websites and TV/Internet broadcasts. The distance learning program has even been named by Forbes magazine as one of the top 20 “Cyber” universities.
