Alejandra Jaramillo

"My goal has always been to be a great teacher."
-Graduate student Alejandra Jaramillo

Alejandra emigrated from Mexico when she was 12 - lost her brother to the streets of South Los Angeles two years later - became a seingle mother - worked full time to support her 3-year-old son - went to school full time - and graduated with liberal studies degree and a 3.9 GPA last May.
What kept her motivated? The idea of teaching - providing a quality education for students like herself. The School of Education rewarded her dedication with a $10,000 scholarship, funding her teacher credential studies this year and helping fulfill her dream. Without scholarships, dreams get put on hold for many students like Alejandra.
