Ways To Give
For the convenience of our donors, CSUDH accepts support through a variety of methods (see below for a brief description of the most common gift methods). Our professional University Advancement staff is always available to work with those desiring to support our students and programs, and to ensure that the donor’s wishes are respected. In addition, CSUDH strongly feels that our students and constituents should know who is helping to make the programs they enjoy possible. As a result, we make every effort to recognize the generosity of our supporters. Past supporters have been recognized at a variety of campus events. Others have given substancial support for new buildings, which now bear their names. For more information regarding support methods, or to make a contribution, please contact the Office of Development at (310) 243-2182.

Cash – The most frequent and easiest form of giving is through cash donations. Such gifts are normally fully tax deductible for individuals who itemize deductions on their federal and state income tax returns. Donations in this category can be made via personal checks, money orders, cashier checks or major credit cards. Gift Pledges – A pledge is a formal statement of intent to make a gift to the University. It may be accompanied by an immediate, outright gift, or simply outline plans for a future donation. It usually includes instructions for a series of regular donations to be made over the course of a specific time period (for example, $100 given once every three months for two years beginning in January 2004). |

Appreciated Marketable Securities – These include gifts of stocks and bonds. The giving of such assets can provide the donor not only with a tax deduction in the amount of the full fair market value of the asset, but in many cases, can help them avoid capital gains taxes, as well.
Real Estate – Gifts of real estate, such as a home or other real property, provide donors with many of the same tax benefits as gifts of marketable securities, as well as the potential of eliminating certain costs associated with the transfer of real property.
In-Kind Gifts – These include gifts of tangible, personal property that can be of use to the University. They include works of art, equipment, rare books and manuscripts. Once donated, they can be used by the University or sold to a third party, with the proceeds used to advance University programs. Giving in this manner allows the donor to support the University without drawing on cash flows or savings.
Matching Gifts – Many corporations will match charitable donations given to qualifying organizations by their employees. Depending on the company’s program, not only cash, but other types of giving may also be eligible for matching contributions. In order to determine if your company supports a matching gift program, please check with your employer’s personnel office.
Planned Giving – Various options are available to individuals who wish to include charitable giving in their estate planning process. Such options allow donors to structure their gift to the University in such a way that they retain an interest in the gift, continue to receive an income stream from the asset, or give the gift as a bequest through their estate. Planned giving provides donors with a vehicle for maximizing their giving potential and tax advantages. It can even help support the future financial security for themselves or loved ones.
