Raymond
Riznyk received his Ph.D. in Botany with
an emphasis on marine algology from
Oregon State University in 1969. His
research focused on studying the ecology
and taxonomy of diatoms (microscopic
algae) which inhabit the mud flats in
the intertidal zone of bays and
estuaries. He is currently the Director
of Research and Funded Projects and
helps faculty and staff develop and
submit grant proposals. Prior to his
position at CSUDH, Dr. Riznyk was a
faculty member at Cal Poly, Pomona and
at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage.
AK. He also served as the Associate Dean
of Graduate Studies and Research at
Central Washington University,
Ellensburg, WA and served as Director of
their McNair Program.

Raslyn
Rendon, Ed.M.
Raslyn Rendon earned her EdM from
Harvard University with a specialization
in Risk and Prevention. Prior to her
current position, Raslyn served on the
Board of Admissions at Boston University
as a Senior Assistant Director where she
coordinated multicultural and
first-generation student recruitment and
held recruitment responsibility for the
areas of Brooklyn and Queens, New York.
She has acquired a great deal of
experience mentoring, coordinating
programs and project managing in
programs such as UCI’s COSMOS, Early
Academic Outreach Program, and the
Harvard COACH Program. Raslyn graduated
from UC Irvine with a B.A. in
Criminology, Law and Society, and a B.A.
in Anthropology. |

José Luis
Serrano
José Luis Serrano is currently earning
his MA in Interdisciplinary Studies with
an emphasis on Chicana/o Historical
Studies. He earned his AA in Liberal
Arts at Long Beach City College and his
BA at the University of California, Los
Angeles in History and Chicana/o
Studies. He has experience working with
students from the high school level to
the college and university level. Prior
to his current position, he worked in
Long Beach high schools and at UCLA for
the Xinachtli outreach program, and as a
Chicana/o Studies and History tutor.
Most recently, he has spent one year as
a teaching assistant for the SBS program
and the Chicana/o Studies Department at
CSUDH.
