University Library South Wing Addition – OLLI Tour
The new CSUDH south wing library addition is a stunning state-of-theart,
five story facility poised to serve the educational and cultural needs of
a growing university and the surrounding community. The library addition
features many energy efficient design innovations, such as a wall of glass
providing wonderful natural light and panoramic views of Los Angeles,
spanning Catalina to downtown Los Angeles. A 2006 state bond measure for public education facilities and a successful University fundraising campaign made this construction possible.
OLLI members are invited to a special south wing tour. The tour will include multicultural exhibits, the university’s book collection, a technologically advanced study area, and the art gallery.
Library Dean Sandra Parham envisioned this expansion as a showcase for
the cultural traditions of the south bay communities. A partnership with the Redondo Beach based nonprofit Picture Art Foundation has made possible the Picture Cultural Arts Center located on the ground floor of the addition.
For information regarding current Library Art Gallery exhibits, call Archives at 310-243-3895.
Participants will meet on the second floor of the main library. It is suggested that participants park in Lot 6 near La Corte Hall.

Library Museum Tour (New Event)
James Scarborough, Executive Director of PICTURE Cultural Art, the art museum at the bottom of the new Library, will discuss the current exhibition, "I Have the Right: Free, Express, Dream, and Love." Discussing the contents of a 125-piece show culled from over 1,300 pieces submitted from all over the world, Scarborough will recount how the exhibition was conceived, how the pieces were chosen, and how the work contributes to the significant discussion of what it means to be human.

What is Car - Fit?
Car-Fit is an educational program created by The American Society on
Aging and developed in collaboration with AAA ( American Automobile
Association), and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
The program is designed to help older drivers find out how well they
currently fit their personal vehicle, to highlight actions they can take to
improve their fit, and to promote conversations about driver safety and
community mobility. A proper fit in ones personal vehicle can greatly
increase not only the driver’s safety but also the safety of others.
