OSX 950 – OSHA 500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry

Prerequisites:

  • OSHA 510 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
  • Five years of construction safety experience

Two years of experience may be substituted for one of the following:

  • A college degree in occupational safety and health
  • A Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • A Certified Safety & Health Technician (CSHT)
  • A Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM)

OSX 951 – OSHA 501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry

Prerequisites:

  • OSHA 511 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry
  • Five years of general industry safety experience

Two years of experience may be substituted for one of the following:

  • A college degree in occupational safety and health
  • A Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • An Occupational Safety & Health Technician (OSHT)
  • A Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM)

OSX 965 – OSHA 5400 Trainer Course in Maritime Safety Trainer

Prerequisites:

  • OSHA 5410 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry
  • Three years of maritime safety experience

Additional Requirements:

  • Two years of occupational safety and health experience (with a broad focus) in any industry
  • A college degree in occupational safety and health, from an accredited college or university

One of the following:

  • An Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • A Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • A Certified Marine Chemist (CMC)
  • A Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM)

OSX 963 – OSHA 5600 Trainer Course for Disaster Site Worker Trainer

Prerequisites:

  • Three years of safety training experience
  • Completion of the 40-hour HAZWOPER course

One of the following:

  • OSHA 500 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health for the Construction Industry
  • OSHA 501 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health for General Industry

Required Courses: OSHA 500, OSHA 501, OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and OSHA 5600


Cal/OSHA Outreach Training

Prerequisites:

  • One year of Safety and health experience with an organization governed by Cal OSHA standards
  • Be a current Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer or become one within six (6) months after completing Cal OSHA partnership class

Construction Industry
Required Course: OSHA 5109
Prerequisite Course: OSHA 500

General Industry Course
Required Course: OSHA 5119
Prerequisite Course: OSHA 501


Steps to enroll in OSHA 500/501/5400/5600:

1. Submit completed prerequisite verification form and proof of prerequisite course completion to osha@csudh.edu, download here

2. If approved, a permission number will be issued to you (allow 1-2 business days for processing).

3. Contact the registration office to provide permission number and payment for course (310-243-3741).

Gain effective training techniques with a special emphasis on the most hazardous areas in construction. Using OSHA standards as a guide, this course is designed for private sector workers interested in developing safety and health programs in the construction industry. Those who successfully complete the course and pass a multiple-choice test become outreach trainers, authorized to conduct both 10 and 30-hour construction courses.

Steps to enroll in OSHA 502/503/5402/5602:

1. Submit copy of Outreach Trainer Card to osha@csudh.edu, indicate Update Course date and location you wish to attend (Please note: Outreach Trainer Card must be no more than 90 days expired at the start of the Update Course.

2. If approved, a permission number will be issued to you (allow 1-2 business days for processing).

3. Contact the registration office to provide permission number and payment for course (310-243-3741).

This course is for private sector personnel who have completed the OSHA #500 instructor course. It refreshes your knowledge and provides an update on recent changes to OSHA’s most common hazards and violations. Construction industry outreach trainers must take this update course every four years.
