Keynote Speaker
Ted Anagnoson, PhD
Professor, Department of Political Science
California State University, Los Angeles


Ted Anagnoson is Professor of Political Science at Cal State LA, where he has taught since 1983. He was Acting Director of the Health Financing Policy Division, Office of Health Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C. from 1995 to 1997.  He received the campus Outstanding Professor Award in 1991, the campus President’s Distinguished Professor Award in 2005, the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration’s Harry Scoville Award for Academic Excellence in 2006 and was the campus nominee for CSU’s Wang Family Excellence Award of the CSU in 2005 and 2006. 

He has taught more than 23 different courses while at CSULA in public policy, aging and health policy, methodology, American politics and developed course proposals for 14 new courses in the curriculum. He has had 20 grants over the course of his career, including four from the National Science Foundation. He has written 28 articles and book chapters as well as several versions of a statistics text entitled StataQuest 4 and the just published Governing California in the 21st Century.  He was chair of the Department of Political Science for nine years and the campus Academic Senate from 2002 to 2004. He was also chair of the Statewide Senate’s Academic Affairs Committee (2004-05) and Vice Chair of the Statewide Academic Senate (2005-06). 

He has also taught at the University of Rochester (where he received his PhD), Alfred University, the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand (where he was a Fulbright lecturer in 1981) and at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand in 1988. In 1974-75, he was a Brookings Institution research fellow while working on his dissertation entitled Political Influence in the Distribution of Federal Grants: A Study of the Implementation of Public Policy.
