Know The Changes. So You'll Be Ready For Registration.
Read about important changes in grading policies that affect you.
Before you get ready to register for next term, make sure you're aware of the important changes in CSUDH's grading policies for Fall 2009. You can also download a summary of the grading policy changes.
When can I withdraw?
Students are given a "W" grade when they withdraw from a course after the add drop period, and before the last 20% of the semester or term.
How many times can I withdraw?
Starting in the Fall 2009 semester, students can now withdraw from 18 units -- typically 4-6 classes -- during the course of their studies at CSUDH. After that, any incomplete courses will result in a failing grade. Any withdrawals taken before the Fall 2009 term do not count toward the limit.
Are there any exceptions?
Students who experience serious medical conditions or other extenuating circumstances during the last 20% of the term may qualify for withdrawal outside the 18-unit limit.
When can I take an incomplete?
If a student is unable to complete the required course work for the semester or term, the instructor may agree to give the student an "I" grade, with the condition that the incomplete work will be fulfilled.
If I get an "I", can I enroll for that course again?
No. Students may not enroll for the course until the "I" grade has been fulfilled. Students who have already registered for a course for which they've previously received an Incomplete will be dropped from that course.
When can I take and fulfill an "I"?
In the University Catalog, you'll find important deadlines affecting when you can apply for, receive and fulfill an Incomplete.
When can I repeat a course?
Undergraduate students who get a grade of "C-" or lower in a course taken at CSUDH may repeat that course. Only the most recent grade will be calculated into the GPA; the first course will automatically be canceled unless otherwise requested by the student.
How many courses can I repeat?
Undergraduate students may repeat and cancel no more than 16 units over the course of their undergraduate studies at CSUDH. For most students, that means they can only repeat three to four courses. This does not apply to any courses repeated before the Fall 2009 Semester. Students can repeat an individual course no more than two times.
How long can I be on academic probation?
Students on academic probation are allowed two semesters to improve their GPA and get back in good academic standing. After that, students will be disqualified from the University.
How will I know if I'm on probation and can't enroll?
The Registrar's office notifies students who are on probation and/or academically disqualified by letter.
