The CSU ATI (Accessible Technology Initiative)

What is ATI?

CSU Accessibility IconATI stands for Accessible Technology Initiative. It is a California State University system-wide project to carry out the accessible technology provisions of the CSU Executive Order 926. The ATI was launched in January 2006. Specifically, ATI focuses on three aspects of information technology and electronic resources: Web accessibility, instructional materials accessibility and procurement of accessible electronic and information technology.

What then, is CSU Executive Order 926?

CSU EO 926 is a CSU Board of Trustees policy on disability support and accommodations. The EO was issued in January 2005.

CSU EO 926 was based on several federal and state legislative documents, notably the following:

  • Federal: Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act
  • Federal: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990
  • Federal: Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act 1998
  • State: California Education Code 67302 (AB 422) 1999
  • State: SB 105 (Burton) 2002
  • State: SB 302 (Kuehl) 2003

Following the launch of the ATI, the President issued a letter to the campus community. In the letter, the President appointed the following individuals to lead the ATI implementation efforts on our campus:

  • Ronald F Bergmann- campus executive sponsor of the ATI project
  • Shon Lee - lead person on Web accessibility
  • Roberta Ambrosino - lead person on instructional materials accessibility
  • Emmit Williams - lead person on procurement of accessible electronic and information technology

The President authorized the above people to take appropriate action for implementing the three ATI priorities.
