Division of Academic Affairs

Academic Affairs Council/Committees

As a result of the reorganization of the Division of Academic Affairs beginning with the 2004-05 academic year, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs established two councils to oversee the critical operations of general education (GE) and liberal studies (LS) and to insure among other things that courses for both are scheduled appropriately to meet the needs of students. Prior to the restructuring the courses for both GE and LS resided mainly in one unit. Currently courses in GE and LS may be found in all five instructional colleges. The membership of the Council on Liberal Studies and Teacher Education Policy (CLSTEP) and the Council on General Education (CGE) consists of the five instructional deans, and both councils are chaired or co-chaired by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The Dean of the College of Education is the co-chair of CLSTEP. The chair of the GE committee and the coordinator of Liberal Studies are members of the GE council and LSTEP council respectively.
