It is the mission and purpose of the California African American Political and Economic Institute (CAAPEI) to establish, operate and maintain a relevant center for the continuing study of the dynamics of African American political and economic contributions in California from the 20th century throughout the 21st. CAAPEI will ultimately become a primary clearinghouse of publicly disseminated information on the subject of the past, present and future of African American political leadership in California; it will become an on-going academic and community research entity particularly dealing with economic and political development issues; it will become an archives for the collection and preservation of the papers and contributions of California political and economic leaders; it will become a facility to coordinate the training of youth for involvement and participation in Californian, and eventually national, public service and politics; and it will become a headquarters for the coordination of conferences, seminars and symposia associated with those co-joined subjects. All such activities will be open to the entire university and to the general public.
CSUDH Infant-Toddler Development Center

The CSUDH Infant-Toddler Development Center is a program for children with developmental delays from 14 to 36 months of age who are referred by the Regional Centers for the Developmentally Disabled. The children range from the severely and profoundly disabled to those at risk for developmental delays. The center is open 5 days a week, 12 months a year, and offers two sessions. The center also serves as a practicum site for students at CSUDH and other colleges and uses a transdisciplinary approach to teaching.

This is a program for teachers to explore ways to engage students in historical thinking. By analyzing historical photographs, primary source documents, artifacts, and historical literature, students draw their own historical understandings as they become engaged in "doing history". Our staff will meet with your school administrators and representative teachers to describe our programs and discuss the type of sessions you will need.

C.L.A.S.S. was created to provide academic support for students as they pursue their academic and professional goals. With the understanding that different students present different needs, the center provides academic support services such as tutoring in a wide range of subjects, workshops designed to enhance and develop students’ study skills, and access to multiplatform technologies.

The CSUDH Center for Service-Learning, Internships & Civic Engagement (SLICE) is committed to facilitating and fostering quality experiential learning opportunities for students. We support the development of symbiotic relationships among campus, local communities in the Greater Los Angeles/South Bay areas, and global neighbors of the world community. SLICE advocates campus contributions of knowledge and skill which promote the quality of life in these communities. Our work supports the University Mission in its commitment to "excellence and pluralism in higher education and to further the goals of a democratic society through wide participation and civic responsibility in community, social, and economic affairs.

This Center provides instructional and professional development support services to faculty. CTL works to build community among faculty around teaching and learning issues by sponsoring workshops and peer support programs. CTL offers grants to faculty for travel to present research, to attend teaching and learning conferences, and for course development.
Center for the Advancement of Diversity in Science and Mathematics

The Center’s primary focus is to increase the number of diverse individuals in the sciences, with diversity being broadly defined, such as ethnicity, race, gender, and socio-economic status. The Center is located in the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences but is a University Center and serves the needs of science and mathematics faculty in other Colleges as well. Goals for the Center will be 1) to increase the number of diverse students in the sciences and mathematics, 2) to sponsor events that focus on increasing diversity in math and science, 3) to support a “pipeline” of math and science activities from middle school, through high school and community college, to California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), 4) to increase the tutoring and mentoring in the sciences and math at CSUDH, 5) to serve as catalyst for new programs and initiatives and 6) to develop initiatives and programs that will serve as models for other universities.

Center for Urban Environment Research (CUER)

The CUER is an interdisciplinary center whose main purpose is to coordinate, support, and expand urban environmental activities at California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). CUER activities are 1) to prepare students for positions in environmentally related fields in government, consulting, research, and advanced studies, which will be facilitated by the creation of a Masters in Environmental Science in Fall 2008, 2) to build CSUDH capacity by acquiring and updating instrumentation and equipment for urban environmental research, including renovating the greenhouse, where native species propagation is taking place, and 3) to provide outreach that will engage students at all levels of education giving them the opportunity to participate in environmentally related scientific inquiry.

The Multicultural Center

The Multicultural Center serves as a focal point on campus for creating intercultural awareness, sensitivity and communication. The Center is a safe haven for individuals and groups to explore not only their own ethnicity but all ethnicities. The Center provides cultural programming, campus community involvement, and volunteer and leadership opportunities for students and staff. Other programs include Diversity Chats, Human Relations retreats, a cultural resource library and opportunities for co-sponsorship with other groups and departments on campus.
