   James L. Welch Hall  
(Information Technology Building)

This new building is the first state-funded facility to be constructed at California State University, Dominguez Hills since the late 1970s.  It is a four-story building with approximately 115,000 assignable square feet that will house the School of Health, Student Services, the Computer Center, and Administration.  The project also includes lecture classroom space to serve over 1,000 full time equivalent students (FTEs).  The building will be located directly north of the Student Health Center on parking lot 3A.

Highlights:
  • The first floor will be primarily for computer-based instruction, in the following areas:
    • 5  mediated-instruction classrooms 
    • 9  computer-based laboratories
    • 2  computer workstation rooms
    • 1  250-seat symposium center

These instructional spaces provide the added capacity for 1,033 FTEs.

 

  
          
  • All of the student services areas that are now housed in the initial buildings (Small College) will be located on the second and third floors.  The second floor is at the main mall level.  This will provide a central location for convenient student "One Stop Shopping".
  • The School of Health will be located on the third floor.  This includes 24 new faculty offices and additional offices for school and division administration.
  • The administrative functions that are now located on the fifth floor of the ERC building will relocate to the third and fourth floors of this new building.

The groundbreaking ceremony for James L. Welch Hall occurred on 
Wednesday, September 20, 2000. 

The building is scheduled to be completed in November 2002.
