Members of the Campus Community:
As we are all aware, the State of California is predicting
rolling blackouts this summer due to our energy shortage. In anticipation of this possibility, the
Loker University Student Union and it’s commercial operations are making plans
that will allow us to remain open during these rolling blackouts. Should a blackout occur while you are in the
Student Union, we request your cooperation in making sure everyone is safe and
secure.
With so many of our services entirely reliant on
electricity, services available during a blackout will be very limited, and to
a great extent will depend on the timing of the blackout (how early or late in
the day it occurs and for how long). The following is a general schedule of
what services we will attempt to make available during any loss of power that
occurs during daylight hours.
University
Bookstore
- Will
plan on operating registers manually, although if phone lines do not work,
they will not be able to accept checks or credit cards
Food
Service
- Depending
on timing of blackout, there will be limited services available. The Kiosk will operate with cold and
packaged items, Subway (if bread is baked) would be fully operational to
cold items. Hot items, including
coffee service, The Grill, and items at Dragon Express would be available
only if already prepared.
- Vending
Machines will not be operational throughout the campus.
- Catering
(subject to timing of blackout) will accommodate all catering requests
necessary. If hot entrees are not
pre-prepared, then the ability to offer a cold entrée selection with deli
and/or salads would be substituted as time allows.
Toro
Shops
- Copiers
and most equipment will be inoperable
- Limited
services will be available
- Stamped
or intercampus mail will be accepted prior to 1:00pm
- Orders
for copy services will be accepted and filled as soon as power is restored
Student
Union
- Meeting
rooms with access to sufficient, natural light will remain open as long as
this lighting provides a safe and secure environment for its users.
- Rooms
with no access to natural light will be vacated and locked.
- Any
equipment requiring electricity will be inoperable.
- ATM’s
will not work
- Meetings
may be moved to areas within the Student Union as space is available with
approval of University Student Union management.
It is our desire to continue to serve the campus community’s
needs while providing a safe environment for everyone. As a precautionary measure, please
familiarize yourself with room and building exits in the event you are asked to
evacuate. Please proceed cautiously to the closest exit. Should a blackout occur after 5pm, the
building and all its services will close and reopen the following day.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
