Alumni Notes
Cal State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has a large number of distinguished alumni in a wide variety of different endeavors. The University has perhaps been most distinguished by the achievements of its members in the fields of entertainment, and Athletics. It is impossible to mention more than a very few of the most celebrated.

Lela Rochon has starred in numerous critically acclaimed films and television series.
Rochon began her professional career while in attendance at CSU Dominguez Hills. She could be seen in more than 20 television commercials from 1984 to 1986. She also appeared as a dancer in videos for Lionel Richie and Luther Vandross and made her television debut, co-starring in ABC’s “A Bunny’s Tale” in 1985. In that same year, Rochon made her film-acting debut in the movie, “Foxtrap.”

Rochon graduated from CSU Dominguez Hills in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and minors in sociology and theatre. The 5’ 9” former model made an easy transition from college to a career in acting. She appeared on many television shows such as “227,” “The Cosby Show” and “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper”.
In 1989, Rochon appeared in Eddie Murphy’s film, “Harlem Nights.” That role brought her a great deal of attention. Three years later, she appeared in another Eddie Murphy film, “Boomerang.” Once more, she left a lasting impression on movie audiences with her role opposite Murphy.
In 1995, she co-starred in the box-office success, “Waiting to Exhale,” based on Terry McMillan’s best selling book. Since her work in the film, Rochon has co-starred in Oliver Stone’s “Any Given Sunday” and in films such as “Gang Related,” “Knockoff” with Jean Claude Van Damme and “The Chamber,” which also starred Chris O’Donnell and Gene Hackman. These films were followed with a lead role in the film “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” with Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry.

Louil Silas Jr., Record executive
Record executive Louil Silas Jr., in Los Angeles, rose through the ranks at MC Records, becoming executive VP of A&R. There, he worked with Bobby Brown and New Edition. He later launched Silas Records.
Lois Lee, Community Activist
Lois Lee is the founder of Children of the Night. Children of the Night is a private, non-profit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1979 are dedicated to assisting children between the ages of 11 and 17 who are forced to prostitute on the streets for food and a place to sleep. Dr. Lee has received countless awards for her work, the most prestigious being the President’s Volunteer Action Award, which was presented to her by President Ronald Reagan at the White House in 1984. She has been profiled on national television, including CBS’ 60 Minutes, and her work was depicted in a CBS TV movie entitled Children of the Night.
