  • Providing assistance and troubleshooting to computer users
  • May analyze requirements and write database programs (Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Performance monitoring
  • Backup and recovery functions
  • Assistance with disaster recovery testing and Business Unit Resumption Plans
  • Network cabling and troubleshooting

 

Skills desired:  Knowledge of Windows OS, network basics, ability to design and implement simple databases.

 

Physical Requirement:  Must be able to lift computer equipment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This part-time Intern opportunity is for college/university undergraduate and/or graduate students.  This position works as part of a team under the direct guidance of the Executive Director and/or their designee.  Interns work on policy, research or program planning in a collaborative nature with limited supervision.  May be assigned to review, analyze and report on legislation, policy decisions, budget or other governmental actions which impact areas of concern to the Commission; or assigned to budget analysis, program review, research, or fiscal matters focused on the Commission, City departments or other public/private entities; or provide staff support to the City’s Youth Council.  The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of the City of Los Angeles, sufficient experience in building collaborations, and skill in working with children, youth, families, city, government agency staff, and other community stakeholders.  This position requires the candidate to work independently and in small groups, may make public appearances and presentations to community groups, parents, professionals, youth, policy makers and elected officials.  The successful candidate must have excellent organizational, writing and communication skills.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

As a courtesy to the communities we serve, the successful applicant is asked to be available for at least one (1) year.  While we prefer at least a one-year commitment, it is not uncommon for there to be project-based, time-limited work throughout the year.

 

NOTE:

Employees may be required to drive their own transportation in support of Commission activities (proof of insurance must be provided.)  A valid California Driver License is required.  Successful applicants for this position required to obtain and provide a copy of his or her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed.  Driver’s License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked.  Successful applicants must complete a pre-employment physical, and will be fingerprinted.  Based on City policy, before being hired in this position, you may be required to undergo a drug and alcohol-screening test.

Notre Dame Summer NSFREU

The University of Notre Dame and National Science Foundation will once again host a summer research experience for undergraduates in biocultural anthropology.  This is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in an experiential learning environment that immerses them in anthropological method and theory.

The field school will be held from June 4 - July 27, 2007 in the Laboratory for Biocultural Anthropology on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The program provides a $400/week stipend, as well as funds for housing and travel to and from the University of Notre Dame.

The Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families/CCYF has a paid internship opportunity for college/university graduate students. This position will be assigned to the Neighborhood Networks4Kids Unit.  Responsibilities include policy/analysis/data collection/research support and/or development/management of appropriate surveys and methodologies for project to develop, enhance and support up to 100 new child safety programs under the Safe Corridors Project.
 
The Safe Corridors Project is a two-year grant funded by the Office of Traffic Safety. This project may include “Safety Valet, Safe Corridors and other short and long term community-based child and youth focused safety initiatives.  CCYF and other city departments (Mayor, LAPD, Dept. of Transportation, City Attorney, Rec & Pks. Library and Community Development Dept), Los Angeles Unified School District, CBO™s, Residents/Parents, will lead this effort.  Schools targeted are those that show the highest traffic congestion and pedestrian/bicycle collision accident rates. Parent volunteers, trained by LAPD, will provide a permanent infrastructure for a community-based solution to child pedestrian/bicycle traffic safety.  The Safe Corridors Project will maximize media exposure by partnering with City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to coordinate outreach efforts via their comprehensive Watch The Road Campaign.

 

  • Position is grant-funded and may end at any time.
  • Position is an at-will, part-time position of 20 hours per week.
  • Salary range is $16.60 to $18.05 per hour depending on skill and experience.
  • Each position requires applicant to be currently enrolled full-time in a recognized college or university.  Verification is required.
  • Applicants must complete a physical including a drug test.  Fingerprinting is required.
  • This position will require a current DMV Printout.

Anthropology Internship Program (Undergraduates & Graduates)

This program supports internships for undergrad/grad students to work on projects relating to the collections or to the ongoing research interests of the curatorial staff in the museum or in the field. Collections & research are focused on North, South, & Mesoamerican archaeology & ethnology; Asian, African, & Pacific ethnology; & Human Biology. In addition, internships are awarded in collections management, archives, & conservation. Internships offered for periods ranging from 3 months- 1year.   Stipend varies.
