Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills makes
its second-consecutive appearance as host school for the 2004
California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's and Women's
Soccer Championship Tournaments, it was announced tonight by the
CCAA commissioner's office. The tournament is scheduled for
November 5-7, and all matches will be played on Toro Field.
The CSUDH men's team sports an overall record
of 13-2-2, 9-0-2 CCAA, and is ranked No. 11 in the nation and No.
2 in the NCAA II Far West Region. The Toros, who won the NCAA
Championship in 2000 and currently are riding an impressive
14-game unbeaten streak, will be seeking their fifth CCAA title in
six years after winning four-consecutive conference crowns from
1999-2002.
The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's team will
be seeking its first CCAA championship since the inaugural
tournament held in 1998. The Toros, sporting an 12-4-1 overall
record and a eight-game unbeaten streak, currently are ranked No.
25 in the national poll and No. 4 in the NCAA Far West Region.
Earlier today, the Toros blanked No. 17-ranked UCSD, 1-0, in what
could be a CCAA and possible NCAA showdown, splitting the regular
season series with the Tritons.
Both the men's and women's semifinals will be
played on Friday, November 5. The championship games will be held
on Sunday, November 7. The women's championship will begin at
11:30 a.m. and the men's championship will follow at 2:00 p.m.
