J.C. BolanosMIAMI SHORES, Fl.—The No. 1 ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills men’s soccer team’s dream season continues with a 1-0 win over Lewis University today in the NCAA II Men’s Soccer semifinal game today at Barry University.

Sean Lockhart (Palm Springs HS) scored an unassisted goal at 85:11 to propel the Toros to their 12th consecutive win and a berth into the title game against the winner of the East Stroudsburg University/Barry University match which will be played later on tonight.

Lockhart’s goal was set up when he intercepted the ball from midfield and dribbled for 15-yards. He caught Lewis’ goalie Andrew Barks off of his line and drilled the ball from 30-yards out to the upper far post just past the diving keeper.

“I had missed opportunity in the first half that would have changed the complexion of the game,” said Lockhart. “I was determined to not miss another opportunity because we have worked too hard to get this far.”

Both teams had opportunities in the first half, however, both defenses forced a scoreless first half. “I thought this was going to be a 1-0 game,” said CSUDH head coach Joe Flanagan.

“The team to score first would probably advance because of their great defense.”

Lewis nearly tied the game at 88:04 when Wolf Janvier hit a shot from 15-yards out that hit the far post. CSUDH’s Jeff Kunze cleared the ball to stave off the threat. Six minutes earlier in the 82nd minute, Garrett Estrin (Palm Springs HS) made a spectacular save when he dived to his left and deflected the ball out of bounds preserving the scoreless tie.

“I still have knots in my stomach,” said Toro goalie Garrett Estrin. “This was a battle of two great teams and I feel fortunate that we earned the right to advance to the national championship.”

Estrin made four saves in the game to earn his 11th win of the year. His overall record is now 11-1-1 while CSUDH’s record climbs to a program best 22-1-1. Lewis University, who’s season ended today, drops to 17-4-1.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will play for their first ever national championship this Sunday, December 3rd at 1:00 p.m. when they take on the winner of the second semifinal game featuring East Stroudsburg State University (PA) and host Barry University (FL).
