Toros Winning Streak Reaches 19 Games with 5-2 Win over Broncos
Gabriel Valencia scores two goals in CCAA victory over Cal Poly Pomona

CARSON, Calif.-Junior forward Gabriel Valencia (Salesian HS) knocked in two goals, including the game winner, to lead No. 1-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 5-2 California Collegiate Athletic Association win today over Cal Poly Pomona at Toro Field. The victory is the 19th straight for the Toros dating back to last season.

Valencia struck early when at 3:52 he took a pass from Sean Silveri (Valencia HS) and beat goalie Garrett Williams to the far post for a 1-0 Toros lead. Senior Sean Lockhart (Palm Springs HS) made it 2-0 when he took a pass from Victor Guerrero (Century HS) over the defense and knocked his shot to the near post at the 16:49-minute mark.

Cal Poly Pomona (0-6-1, 0-3 CCAA) cut the lead to 2-1 when forward Darren Williams gathered a loose ball in front of the net and sent it to the far post at 19:37.

Less than a minute later though, Valencia scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway. Valencia beat Williams and toed the ball for a 3-1 lead at 20:32.

Freshman Rick Cobb (Warren HS) gave the Toros a 4-1 lead at 32:52. Cobb took a rebound off the post from a Lockhart shot and one-timed the ball to the far post.

Williams though cut the Toros lead scoring his second goal of the game at 41:13. Williams took a pass from Cherif Guirguis and sent the ball from 20-yards out to the far post, past diving CSUDH goalie Luis Morales (Banning HS) making it 4-2 at the half.

Siveri accounted for the final score two minutes into the second period when he sent a blast to the upper corner of the far post from 25-yards away at 47:17. Senior fullback Nathan Ballard (Sonora HS) assisted with a nice pass from the left side.

In the game, CSUDH (7-0, 4-0 CCAA) outshot Pomona 18-7 including a 10-2 margin in the first half. Goalkeeper Luis Morales made three saves to earn the win. Morales is now perfect in a Toros uniform with an 18-0-0 record dating back to last year. Garrett Williams took the loss for the Broncos while making seven saves in the game.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 1 in the latest NSCAA polls, will be back in action on Sunday hosting CS San Bernardino in CCAA action at Toro Field. First kick is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
