THIS WEEK IN TOROS SOCCER
Sept. 21 #25 CSUDH vs. Cal Baptist University Toro Field, 4:30 pm

ON TAP: CSUDH takes a break from their mini 2-game road trip with a non-conference home contest on Friday against Cal Baptist University. First kick is set for 4:30 p.m.

TOROS TOPPLED BY UC SAN DIEGO: UC San Diego's Megan Mendoza blew open a scoreless game with a second half hat trick, knocking in three unanswered goals as UCSD defeated the Toros 3-0. The game could have been worse if it were not for CSUDH goalie Heather Williams (Canyon HS) save of a penalty kick midway through the second period. However, the Toros were outshot 16-12 in the match while suffering their first loss to the Tritons since the '95 season.

TOROS RUN PAST ANTELOPES IN PHOENIX: The Toros improve their series advantage to 10-0 over Grand Canyon with a 3-0 win in Phoenix on Monday night. The victory snaps a mini two-game losing streak for the Toros. CSUDH took a 1-0 halftime lead on an early goal from sophomore forward Tanya Wilson (Palm Springs HS). At the 7:38-minute mark, sophomore defender Leslie Taylor (Ayala HS) played a ball over the top of the GCU defense, finding the feet of Wilson who beat goalie Jolene Gannon and slipped the ball into the net from 15-yards away. The Toros took a 2-0 advantage at the 57:03 minute mark when Lecia Davis (N. Torrance HS) played a ball into forward Dianne Garza (Temple City HS) who found the far post from 18-yards out. After Garza failed on a penalty kick in the 65th minute, Maribel Garcia (Woodbridge HS) registered her first collegiate goal in a Toros uniform. At the 77:39 mark, Garcia collected a rebound off the keeper from consecutive shots by Garza, then chipped her shot to the upper far post giving the Toros a 3-0 advantage and the final margin of victory. Cal State Dominguez Hills out-shot Grand Canyon 24-9. Heather Williams earned her second shutout of the season making two saves in the game.

TOROS VS. LANCERS: The Toros hold a 3-0 all-time series acvantage against Cal Baptist. Last year, CSUDH came back to defeat the Lancers in their season-opening game here in Carson 4-3 in overtime. After finding themselves down 0-3, the Toros scored three goals in the final 27 minutes of the game with two goals from Tanya Wilson then the equalizer by Dianne Garza with over three minutes left in the game. Jill Toda knocked in the game-winner off a free-kick in the 103rd minute giving CSUDH the improbable come-from-behind victory.
