SAN DIEGO, Calif.-All good things must come to
an end, and they did today as the Toros dropped a 1-0
non-conference decision on the road at Alliant International
University. The loss snapped a nation-best 23-game winning streak
and a 32-game unbeaten streak dating back to last year for the
defending NCAA National Champions.
AIU, formerly United States International
University, struck first in the 30th minute of play to account for
all the scoring in the game. CSUDH out-shot the Globe Runners but
AIU's defense was able to shutout a very potent Toros offense that
was averaging 3.3 goals per game.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (10-1) had several
scoring opportunities in the second period, however, Alliant
cleared two balls off the line. Junior forward Scott White (Sonora
HS) also hit the post midway through the second half during a
flurry of Toro shots.
For CSUDH, their 23-game win streak goes on
record as the third best all-time in NCAA II history. Also, the
Toros 32-game unbeaten streak was only four shy of the NCAA II
record of 36 held by Southern Connecticut State.
Cal State Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 1 in the
latest NSCAA polls, will be back in action on Friday, October 5
traveling north to take on CCAA foe San Francisco State. First
kick is set for a 1:30 pm start.
