Toros Defeat Cal Baptist 3-1 in Non-Conference Women's Soccer Action
Lecia Davis scores two goals as CSUDH comes from behind to defeat Lancers
September 28, 2001

CARSON, Calif.-Cal State Dominguez Hills' Lecia Davis (N. Torrance HS) scored two goals today to lead the Toros to a 3-1 non-conference victory over visiting Cal Baptist University at Toro Field.

CSUDH had to come from behind though as they found themselves on the short end of a 1-0 score early. CBU's Jenny Stolle scored in the 2nd minute of play when she took a pass over the Toros defense from Lisa Muench. Stolle caught goalie Alba Garcia (Don Lugo HS) off her line and chipped her shot to the far post.

Cal State Dominguez Hills tallied the equalizing goal, however, right before halftime. Shannon Donnelly (LB Poly HS) scored her third goal of the season when she took a long pass off a free kick from Erin Fieger (Mira Costa HS) at the 43:33-minute mark. Donnelly gathered the ball and slipped it to the near post making it 1-1.

Davis then gave the Toros a 2-1 lead two minutes into the second period. At 47:15, Davis knocked in the game-winner when she took a flick pass from Norma Gutierrez (Santa Clara HS) and headed the ball to the back of the net over a drawn out goalie from 10-yards out.

Ten minutes later, Davis scored her second goal of the contest accounting for the final 3-1 margin. Fieger sent a long ball inside the box to Garza, who then crossed the ball to Davis. Davis' shot went right to the Lancer goalie Ashley Montgomery, but it slipped her hands and through her legs for the score.

In the game, the Toros out-shot CBU (4-2) 20-6. Garcia wins her fourth game of the year making two saves in goal. For Cal Baptist, Montgomery took the loss allowing both goals in the second half.

CSUDH (9-2-1), who came into the game ranked No. 25 in the latest NSCAA polls, returns to action next Friday, Oct. 5 travelling to CCAA foe San Francisco State. Kick off is set for 4:00 pm.
