Oct. 20 CCAA Championships UC San Diego Campus, San Diego, CA

TOROS GEAR UP FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's cross-country squad is gearing up for the CCAA Championships this coming weekend at the UC San Diego campus. The top three teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II Regionals held November 3 in Bellingham, Washington.

HEAD COACH DEANN SCHLOBOHM Coach Schlobohm begins her fifth season as head coach of the CS Dominguez Hills Cross Country team. Last season, the Toros finished seventh in the CCAA and took an eleventh place finish at the NCAA Division II Regional Championships. Scholbohm started the Toros Cross Country program from scratch in 1997.

TOROS AT TRITON INVITATIONAL Cal State Dominguez Hills took seventh place this weekend at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, held on the campus of UC San Diego. The squad finished with a total time of 2:03:07.10 and an average of 24:45.68 on the 6,000 meter course. The Toros top three runners finished within the top 50, out of 170 competitors. The Toros once again beat out Division I schools in UNLV and Loyola Marymount University. Senior Cambria D'Amico (N. Torrance HS) was the first Toro to cross the line with a time of 24:04.60 and a 23rd place finish. D'Amico has been the top finisher for CSUDH in every race this season. Sophomore Aracne Hernandez (Bellflower HS) finished in 40th place with a time of 24:42.80. Junior Wendy Vallejo (John Marshall HS) was on Hernandez's heels with a time of 24:58.90. Freshman Yosie Castillo (Bellflower HS) stopped watches at 25:22.40. Junior Sherron Rhetta rounded out the Toros in the top 100 with a time of 27:06.00.

D'AMICO LEADS THE SQUAD, AGAIN Senior Cambria D'Amico continued her streak for being the first Toro to cross the finish line. The Torrance native clocked a time of 24:04.60 on the 6,000 meter course, good enough for a 23rd place finish. This is the sixth straight time that D'Amico has been the top Toros finisher. D'Amico was also the top CCAA runner to cross the line, a good sign for next weekend's championships.

TOP THREE The Toros top three runners last weekend finished in the top 50 out of 170 competitors. D'Amico, Hernandez and Vallejo all finished in the upper third of the competition.
