TURLOCK, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills
received four second half goals to cruise to a 5-0 shutout victory
over Cal State Stanislaus in California Collegiate Athletic
Association action today at Warrior Field.
The No. 3 ranked Toros and defending national
champs, took a 1-0 lead when Eddie Gonzales-Pinto scored what
turned out to be the game-winning shot at 5:22. Sean Lockhart
layed off a pass inside the box to Gonzales-Pinto who slotted his
shot to the near post from 12-yards away.
It stayed 1-0 until the 49:23 mark when Joe
Cartlidge headed in his shot making it 2-0. Lockhart sent in a
corner kick that Michael Jimenez flicked on to Cartlidge who
headed in the score to the far post.
At 54:22 Lockhart made it 3-0 Toros on a
beautiful goal off a free kick. From 18-yards out on the right
side of the box, Lockhart bent his shot over the wall to the upper
far post freezing Stanislaus keeper Matthew Buckman.
Four minutes later at 58:59, Jimenez gave CSUDH
more breathing room when Gonzales-Pinto played the ball down the
left side. Jimenez ran onto it and slotted his shot from inside of
eight yards past Buckman for a 4-0 lead.
Gabriel Valencia finished the scoring for the
Toros at 86:31. Valencia took the ball from Kevin Sosa at midfield
and gallopped 50 yards and beat the goalie one-on-one for the
score.
CSUDH keeper Luis Morales earned the shutout
with two saves in goal. It is the seventh shutout of the year for
Morales tying the Toros all-time record for shutouts in a season.
Cal State Dominguez Hills is now 14-1-1 on the
year and 11-0-1 in conference play. The Toros return to action on
Wednesday at Cal State Bakersfield. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00
