TOROS GEAR UP FOR REGIONALS After a
sixth place finish at this past weekend's CCAA Championships in
San Diego, CA, the Toros will gear up for the NCAA II West
Regionals on November 3, held in Bellingham, WA. The top three
teams will qualify for the NCAA II Championships, in Slippery
Rock, Arkansas.
HEAD COACH DEANN SCHLOBOHM Coach
Schlobohm is in her fifth season as head coach of the CS Dominguez
Hills Cross Country team. Last season, the Toros finished seventh
in the CCAA and took an eleventh place finish at the NCAA Division
II Regional Championships. Scholbohm started the Toros Cross
Country program from scratch in 1997.
TOROS AT CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Cal State
Dominguez Hills took a sixth place finish at the CCAA
Championships this past weekend. The Toros had a total time of
2:02:35.7 and an average time of 24:19.14. The Championship was
won by UC Davis who had four runners finish in the top five. The
top runner for CSUDH was senior Cambria D'Amico (N. Torrance HS)
who finished in 13th place with a time of 23:13.2 on the 6,000
meter course. Sophomore Aracne Hernandez (Bellflower HS) had a
strong meet, clocking a time of 24:04.10, for a 24th place finish.
Sophomore Wendy Vallejo (John Marshall HS) finished in 34th place
with a time of 24:30.80 and freshman Yosie Castillo (Bellflower
HS) was right behind her in 35th place, stopping watches at
24:35.60. Junior Victoria Flores (Montebello HS) crossed the line
at 25:12.0 for a 52nd place finish, junior Sherron Rhetta finished
in 64th place, checking in at 25:50.70, freshman Pia Folsing
(Bornholm HS) finished with a time of 26:17.60 in 72nd place and
sophomore Kendra Spratt (Long Beach Wilson HS) rounded out the
Toros pack with a 79th place finish and a time of 27:38.0.
D'AMICO EARNS ALL -CCAA HONORS With her
performance at the CCAA Championships, Cambria D'Amico earned
all-conference accolades.Her time of 23:13 at the championships,
was her fastest time on a 6,000 meter course this season. The
senior has been the top Toros finisher in every meet this season.
She earned CCAA runner of the Week honors for the week of
September 4, for her performance at the CSUF Jammin' Invitational,
where she took a 36th place finish on the 5,000 meter course, with
a season-best time of 19:14.8. The Torrance native has
consistently beat out runners from top Division I programs all
season-long and is always among the top Division II finishers.
