CARSON,
Calif.-Tanya Wilson tallied the game-winning goal for Cal State
Dominguez Hills in the 56th minute as the Toros defeated visiting
Cal State LA today 2-1 in California Collegiate Athletic
Association action at Toro Field.
CSUDH (15-3-1, 10-3-1 CCAA) scored first at
19:40 when junior forward Shannon Donnelly (LB Poly HS) knocked in
a beautiful cross inside the box from Wilson making it 1-0.
Less than two minutes later though, Cal State
LA (4-12-1, 2-10-1 CCAA) would get the equalizer when Desiree
Avila knocked in a scramble in front of the mouth of the goal at
21:38 making it 1-1.
It wasn't until the second period when Tanya
Wilson (Palm Springs HS) tallied the game-winning goal. Junior
Dianne Garza (Temple City HS) sent a shot to the near post that
CSLA goalie Alicia Parkhouse made a nice save on. However, she
wasn't able to hold on and Wilson was there to pick up the rebound
from close range for the game-winner making it 2-1.
Senior defender Jill Toda (Gahr HS) would close
out the scoring in the game for the Toros. Toda took the ball near
midfield, beat five CSLA defenders then the goalie on a breakaway
to the far post at 60:57. Heather Williams (Canyon HS) registered
her 11th win of the season in goal with four saves.
Four seniors were honored in pre-game
ceremonies as they played in their final regular season home game
here today. Senior midfielders Kristie McMahan and Griselda
Ramirez , defender Jill Toda and goalkeeper Heather Williams all
played in their final home game.
CSUDH, ranked No. 17 in the latest NSCAA polls,
look next to the CCAA Championship Tournament next week at host UC
San Diego. The Toros will play on Friday, Nov. 2 at 5:00 p.m.
against Cal Poly Pomona.
