Coach Flanagan and Senior Sean Lockhart Earn Top CCAA Men's Soccer Honors
Midfielder tabbed CCAA Player of the Year while Flanagan named Coach of the Year for second consecutive season

Sean LockhartCARSON, Calif.-Sean Lockhart, who was named the 2001 CCAA Most Valuable Player of the Year, led a group of seven Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer players selected to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association squads this past weekend. Head coach Joe Flanagan was also named the CCAA Coach of the Year as announced by the conference office on Saturday.

Lockhart, a senior midfielder from Palm Springs High School in Palm Springs, CA, led the No. 5-ranked and defending NCAA National Champion Toros to a 17-2-1 overall record and their third consecutive CCAA Championship with a 1-0 victory over UC Davis yesterday in the league tournament title game. Lockhart led the Toros with 41 points on 15 goals and 11 assists. The senior midfielder also registered a team-high six game-winning goals including the winning shot on Friday in CSUDH's 3-0 semifinal win over Sonoma State.

Six others were selected to the All-CCAA squad. Senior All-America defender Joe Cartlidge (Redondo Union HS), who tallied the game-winning goal in yesterday's title game, and junior forward Gabriel Valencia (Salesian HS) earned First Team All-CCAA honors. Senior goalkeeper Luis Morales (Banning HS), senior defender Nathan Ballard (Sonora HS), sophomore midfielder Eddie Gonzales-Pinto (N. Torrance HS) and freshman defender Rick Cobb (Warren HS) were named to the Second Team All-CCAA team.

Head coach Joe Flanagan on Saturday was named the CCAA Coach of the Year. It was the second consecutive honor for Flanagan and the third time he has been selected for the award during his 8-year tenure at CSUDH. This season, Flanagan has led the Toros to a 17-2-1 overall mark and their third consecutive CCAA title. He joined an elite group of coaches yesterday in the CCAA Championship game. The 1-0 win over UC Davis put Flanagan in the Century Club with his 100th career victory. Flanagan is now 100-50-8 at the helm of the CSUDH program.

The Toros will host Cal State Bakersfield in the first round of the NCAA II playoffs this Saturday, November 10. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
