HEAD COACH DEANN SCHLOBOHM Coach
Schlobohm is in her fifth season as head coach of the CS Dominguez
Hills Cross Country team. Last season, the Toros finished seventh
in the CCAA and took an eleventh place finish at the NCAA Division
II Regional Championships. Scholbohm started the Toros Cross
Country program from scratch in 1997.
TOROS AT NCAA DIVISION II WEST REGIONALS
Cal State Dominguez Hills finished in 11th place at the NCAA
Division II West Regionals, held Saturday on the campus of Western
Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. The Toros
finished 11th out of 21 teams, with a score of 263. CSUDH had its
top five runners finish in the top 80, out of 135 runners,
competing on the 6,000 meter course. The meet was won by UC Davis,
who had five runners finish in the top 20. Senior Cambria D'Amico,
wrapping up her final season, had a strong showing, placing 11th,
with a time of 24:28.. The senior has been the top finisher for
the Toros in every meet this season. Junior Aracne Hernandez
(Bellflower HS) had one of her strongest meets of the season.
Hernandez took a 29th place finish with a time of 23:29. The next
Toros runner to cross the line was freshman Yosie Castillo
(Bellflower HS). Castillo took a 69th place finish with a time of
24:28. Following Castillo in 75th place was junior Wendy Vallejo
(John Marshall HS). Vallejo stopped watches at 24:37. Junior
Victoria Flores (Montebello) finished five places behind Vallejo
with a time of 24:41. Junior Sherron Rhetta rounded out the Toros
pack with a time of 24:49.41.
D'AMICO EARNS ALL -REGION ACCOLADES
With her performance at the NCAA Division II West Regionals,
Cambria D'Amico earned all-region honors . Her time of 22:27 at
the regionals, was her fastest time on a 6,000 meter course this
season. D'Amico also garnered all-CCAA honors for her performance
at the CCAA Championships last month, where she placed 13th. The
senior has been the top Toros finisher in every meet this season.
She earned CCAA runner of the Week honors for the week of
September 4, for her performance at the CSUF Jammin' Invitational,
where she took a 36th place finish on the 5,000 meter course, with
a season-best time of 19:14.8. The Torrance native has
consistently beat out runners from top Division I programs all
season-long and is always among the top Division II finisher's.
TOROS PUT BEST FOOT FORWARD AT REGIONALS
Four Toros had their best performances of the season Saturday at
the regionals. Cambria D'Amico, Aracne Hernandez, Yosie Castillo
and Sherron Rhetta all posted their fastest times of the season.
D'Amico clocked in at 22:47, 26 seconds faster than her
performance at the CCAA championships. Hernandez finished with a
time of 23:29, 31 seconds better than her time at the CCAA
Championships. Castillo stopped watches at 24:28, seven second
better than at the CCAA Championships. Rhetta, who has made three
appearances for the Toros this season, recorded a time of 25:49,
slicing almost two minutes off of her best time of the season,
posted at the CCAA championships as well.
