Toros Drop 2001-02 Season Opener to Visiting Yellowjackets
Yellowjackets led by three players scoring in double figures to win the non-conference match-up

CARSON, Calif.- Cal State Dominguez Hills dropped its 2001-02 season opener tonight, falling 75-49 to the visiting Yellowjackets of Montana State-University Billings in a non-conference matchup at the Torodome.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (0-1) controlled the lead for 15 minutes in the first half, until MSU-Billings' (1-0) Amber Zylaway drained a three pointer to edge MSU into the lead 25-23. From that point on, the Yellowjackets controlled the contest, never letting go of the lead and going into the half up by seven 36-29.

The second half belonged to MSU-Billings. They outscored the Toros 39-20, and were solid from the floor draining 52% of their shots (14 of 27). The Yellowjackets went on a 24-0 scoring run, before junior center Muñeca Bush stopped it with a pair from behind the free throw line.

MSU-Billings built its largest lead of the game at 30 with 1:49 remaining.

CSUDH had strong performance from center Kendra Tease. The 6-1 junior had a team-high 10 points and picked up seven boards.

Christina Tucker and Bryanna Norton each poured in seven apiece for the Toros. Tucker, a senior forward shot 75% from the field and grabbed three rebounds. Norton, a 5-11 center hit the Toros only three-point basket of the night, with 1:28 remaining in the game.

The Toros were 29% from the field, 11% from behind the arc and 59% from the charity stipe.

Montana State-Billings had a strong showing from senior forward Becky Jacobs who scored a match-high 18 points. Guard Marie Dyk and forward Amber Zylawy contributed 12 and 11 points respectively for the Yellowjackets.

MSU posted impressive numbers. They were 46% from the field, 46% from three-point land and 73% from behind the line.

The Toros fellto 0-1 on the season, and are now 10-11 in season-openers and 15-6 in home- openers. They will look to pick up their first win of the season as they host Cal Baptist University tomorrow night in a non-conference game. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
