Toros Women Lose Second Half Lead, and Game, to UC Davis
December 8, 2001

Complete Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. -- Janae Henning scored a career-high 32 points and Shea Purkiss hit a key three-point basket with 1:18 remaining to give the Aggies a five-point lead as UC Davis defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 65-59, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's game Saturday evening at Recreation Hall.

Cal State Dominguez Hills falls to 1-4, 0-2 in conference play, and UC Davis improves to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the CCAA.

The Aggies came out slow on the offensive end as they shot just 33 percent for the half on 9-27 shooting. Henning kept the game close as she scored 14 of her points in the opening 20 minutes. It was a half of give and take as there were 10 lead changes and 10 ties with the half ending at 32-32.

The Toros jumped out quickly in the second half, scoring the first six points to take their biggest lead of the game at 38-32 three minutes into the half. UC Davis countered with a 10-0 run of their own as Henning would contribute eight of those points.

Although there would be three more ties in the half, the Toros would never regain the lead as each time they drew even, Henning would answer. With the game still in the balance, Purkiss drained a three from the top of the key to give the Aggies some breathing room.

In the end it was too much Henning. For the night she would connect on 14 of her 16 shots and grab a game-high 11 rebounds. It was the second consecutive night Henning topped her career high following a 27-point effort against Cal State L.A. Friday evening.

Cal State Dominguez Hills was paced by Tracee Lewis, who scored 17 points and dished a team-best four assists. Christina Tucked scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. The Toros outshot UC Davis, 42 percent to 36 percent from the floor, but they committed 29 turnovers on the night which resulted in 18 UC Davis points.

The Toros continue their road games next weekend, at Cal State, San Bernardino on Friday and Cal Poly Pomona Saturday.
