CARSON, Calif.-The Cal State Dominguez Hills
men's soccer team, who lost in the NCAA II National Championship
game just over a week ago, landed three players on the 2001
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA II
All-America squad.
Seniors Sean Lockhart and Joe Cartlidge earned
First Team honors en route to leading the Toros to a runner-up
finish this year in the NCAA Championships.
Lockhart, a forward from Palm Springs HS, led
the Toros in scoring with 44 points on 16 goals and 12 assists
just two points shy of the CSUDH all-time record for points in a
season. Earlier this year, Lockhart was selected as the 2001
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the
Year.
Cartlidge, a defender from nearby Redondo Union
HS, earns his second consecutive appearance on the All-America
squad. Last year, Cartlidge was selected to the Second Team while
leading CSUDH to the NCAA II National Championship. This year,
Cartlidge tallied eight points on three goals and two assists
including the game-winning goal against Dowling College in the
NCAA semifinals.
Gabriel Valencia earned a spot on the Third
Team All-America squad after a brilliant season. The junior
forward from Salesian HS was the second leading scorer on the
squad with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. Valencia was
second on the team with four game-winning goals.
