SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State, San Bernardino's
women's basketball team opened up an eight-point lead on Cal State
Dominguez Hills at the half and held on for a 62-57 California
Collegiate Athletic Association victory Friday night in front of
200 fans at Coussoulis Arena.
Junior wing Erica Cronin scored 11 of her
game-high 17 points in the second half as the Coyotes (6-1 overall
and 2-1 in the CCAA) held off a determined charge by the Toros,
who pulled even at 49-49 with less than five minutes remaining.
However, Cronin and guards Angela Garrett and
Amanda Fitzgerald hit key buckets down the stretch to stave off
the Toros (0-3 in CCAA and 1-5 overall).
Christine Tucker led the Toros with 13 points
and eight rebounds while junior center Kendra Tease had 12 points
and five rebounds. Tracee Lewis, who came into the game averaging
over 14 points a game was held to just four points by the Coyotes.
Cronin, who had 29 points and 12 rebounds in
her last game at Cal State Bakersfield, was five of nine from the
field and two of two from three point range and made all five of
her free throws. Sharee Brown had eight points and three rebounds.
Amy George and Fitzgerald each had four assists.
San Bernardino outshot the Toros 48.9 percent
to 33 percent. Dominguez Hills shot just 27 percent in the first
half (9 of 33)
The difference in the game was at the
long-range shooting. The Coyotes were eight of 15 from beyond the
arc while the Toros were four of 18.
CSUSB outrebounded the visitors 41-33.
Cal State Dominguez Hills continues on the road
trip Saturday at Cal Poly Pomona.
