CARSON, Calif.- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team picked up a 68-61 victory tonight over the visiting Gators of San Francisco State. On the way to posting the win, senior guard Tracee Lewis (St. Bernards HS) set two new school records from the free throw line, most free throws (13) and best free throw percentage (1.000), as well as posting game-high points with 22.

The first half was a story of turnovers, with each team trying to keep possession of the ball. Within the first three minutes of the tip, there were a total of nine turnovers combined. The Toros took a 5-0 lead in the first three minutes, before Jennifer Kutz answered for the Gators with a two point hoop. With the exception of two ties at 8-8 and 12-12, the Toros enjoyed a four to six point cushion throughout the first 20. Tracee Lewis led the Toros scoring drive with nine points, six coming from the charity stripe, and she nailed a trey at the 13:25 mark.

The Gator drive was led by Sharee Sykes, who poured in a game-high 12. CSUDH managed to go into the locker room with a six point lead at the half, which is amazing, considering that the Toros only shot 32% from the field, compared to SFSU who connected on 44% of their attempts, but the Toros were strong from long range, nailing four shots.

The story of the second half was the free throw line. CSUDH posted a perfect 9-9 from the stripe, seven of those belonging to Lewis, while the Gators were only 5 of 9 (55%). SFSU had two players come on strong in the final 20, hoping to push the Gators on to victory. Eleanor Ecoffey had 10 second half points, six on threes, while Jennifer Kutz added nine in the second. Lewis continued to be perfect from the line, while adding to her numbers by pouring in six points from the field. Lewis scored 13 points in the final twenty.

Another bright spot for the Toros tonight was the play of junior Monesiha Washington. The guard posted double-figures with a personal-best ten points, including being a perfect 2 for 2 from downtown. She also saw a season-high 11 minutes.

San Francisco State University had three players, Kutz, Ecoffey and Sykes score in double figures. The Gators were 21 of 43 (48%) from the field, 3 of 6 (50%) from downtown and 16 of 21 (76%) from the charity stripe. They pulled down 29 boards, but gave the ball away 20 times.

Cal State Dominguez Hills was led on the night by Lewis, who racked up 22 points, with 13 of those coming from the free throw line. Lewis set a new school record in field goals made with 13. The previous record was 11 set by three players, including her teammate, senior Fercia Rambacal. Lewis also set the record for free throw percentage at 13 of 13 (100%).

As a team, the Toros were 20 of 50 (40%) from the field, 5 of 17 (29%) from long range, and 23 of 29 (79%) from the line. They posted 30 boards, and picked up 12 steals.

CSUDH improved to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in CCAA action.
