BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. - Junior guard Diane
Dittburner got off to a sizzling start Saturday night, helping the
No. 24 (NCAA Division II) Cal State Bakersfield womens
basketball team pull away from Cal State Dominguez Hills early en
route to a 77-62 victory at Centennial Garden in Bakersfield.
Dittburner scored 15 of her game-high 26 points
in the first half to help CSUB put the game out of reach early.
Her fastbreak layup with 13:10 to play in the period gave CSUB its
first double-digit lead at 20-10. CSDH never pulled within 10
points again.
CSDH leading scorer Tracee Lewis led the Toros
with 14 points, just over her season average. Fercia Rambacal came
off the bench to score 13 points while center Kendra Tease
finished with 12. Muneca Bush grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
The Toros did an admirable job taking away CSUB
center Heather Garay, who torched Cal State L.A. for 35 points
Friday night. Garay scored a season-low 12 points (11 below her
average) and grabbed a season-low three rebounds.
With Garay effectively neutralized, junior
forward Andria Fabulic stepped forward to score a career-high 14
points. Combined with Dittburners performance, it was enough
to hold the Toros at bay.
Sophomore guard Holly Armstrong added eight
points and eight assists for CSUB. Senior center Kelly Kelley came
off the bench to add five rebounds and three blocked shots.
CSDH (5-9, 3-9) will play Cal State L.A. in
back-to-back games next week, beginning with a game Wednesday in
Los Angeles.
CSUB (14-2, 10-1 CCAA) finished the first half
of California Collegiate Athletic Association play alone in first
place. The Runners will take a week off before traveling to
Turlock to meet Cal State Stanislaus Saturday night.
