THE TOROS LAST TIME OUT

Cal State Stanislaus def. Cal State Dominguez Hills 57-47 The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team dropped its eighth game of the season and sixth CCAA matchup as they were defeated by the host Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus on Friday. The Toros only had one player, junior center Kendra Tease score in double-figures. Tease had a team-high 11 points in the loss. Junior Moneisha Washington was the second top scorer for the Toros. The guard poured in nine points, including six off threes. Senior forward Christina Tucker dominated the Toros boards with 11 rebounds. CSUDH suffered from poor shooting, connecting on only 25% of their shots from the field. Cal State Stanislaus had two players, Shannon Donnelly and Ruby Webb score in double-figures and were consistent from the field, shooting 42% on the night.

Cal State Bakersfield def. Cal State Dominguez Hills 77-62 The Toros would looking to rebound after a loss to Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night as they walked into Centennial Garden to take on the first -place Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield. The Toros put up a fight, improving their dismal shooting percentage of 25% from the previous night to 40% on Saturday, and having three players score in double figures. But it was not enough, as the 'Runners closed with a 15 point win. Senior guard Tracee Lewis (St. Bernard's HS) led the Toros scoring charge with 14 points, while the Toros other senior guard Fercia Rambacal (Mark Keppel HS) dumped in 13. Tease scored in double digits for the second consecutive night with 12. However, the Toros scoring was unable to match the 26 points put up by CSUB's Diane Dittburner. CSUB was consistent from the field, making 53% of their shots, but even more consistent from long range, connecting on 9 of 16 attempts from downtown.

TOROS NOTES

  • LEWIS HAS RECORD BREAKING WEEKEND Not only did senior guard Tracee Lewis score game-high points in the Toros win over San Francisco State, she also scored a place in the Toros Record Books. Lewis broke the single-game records for most free throws made (13) and best free throw percentage (1.000). Lewis surpassed the old record of 11 for free throws made in a contest. The record was held by three players, including current teammate Fercia Rambacal. Lewis's performance from the line that night was an indication of how things have been going all season. She was a perfect 8 of 8 in the Toros loss to Cal Poly Pomona, and the senior is 57 of 71 (80%) on the season, which is a squad -high.
  • FROM DOWNTOWN Junior Moneisha Washington is on her way to becoming one of the Toros top three-point specialist. The guard has nailed four of nine shots from long range to lead the Toros in 3Pt FG% at 44%. She has made those four shots in her last three games.
  • CONSISTENCY Despite a 36% shooting percentage by the Toros as a team, junior center Kendra Tease is the most consistent shooter for CSUDH, connecting on 51% of her shots. Tease is 53-104 from the field. The next closest Toros jersey is junior center Nakeisha Perkins. Perkins is 45% from the field.
  • LEWIS STANDS ALONE Senior guard Tracee Lewis is the only Toro to have started every game this season. She has seen action in all of the Toros 14 games. Lewis is also seeing the most courttime. Lewis is clocking 34.9 minutes on the floor per game, and on the season has put in 488 minutes, well over 100 more than any other Toro this season.
  • SENIOR LEADERS The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team's scoring drive is being led by their senior class. The Toros four seniors, Tracee Lewis, Bryanna Norton, Fercia Rambacal and Christina Tucker are averaging 6.9 ppg.
  • PERKINS PULLS DOWN 100 Junior center Nakeisha Perkins has hit the century mark in rebounds. Perkins pulled down seven rebounds on the weekend to bring her season total to 100 exactly. She is averaging a team-leading 7. 1boards per game. But look out for senior Christina Tucker who is on Perkins heels in the rebounding game. Perkins needs just six more rebounds to hit the century mark and since she is averaging 6.7 points per game, look for her to do so in this Wednesday's matchup at Cal State LA.
  • TOROS FORCING TURNOVERS Cal State Dominguez Hills is forcing turnovers. The Toros have forced 317 turnovers on the season, including stealing the ball away 134 times. CSUDH is turning the ball over 19.6 times per game, compared to their opponents who are giving the ball away 22.6 times per contest.
