THE TOROS LAST TIME OUT

Cal State LA def. Cal State Dominguez Hills 70-50 The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team was looking to rebound after suffering two losses to Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State Bakersfield the past weekend. The Toros went into the Eagles Nest at Cal State LA, looking to pick up the win, but they suffered from poor shooting and added another loss to their record. The Toros were only down by six after the end of the first half. Senior guard Tracee Lewis led the CSUDH scoring drive with seven in the first 20, Christina Tucker and Muñeca Bush each add six apiece for the Toros, who were decent from the field, shooting 39%. But the tide changed during the second 20. CSUDH went a weak 7 of 37 (18%) from the field, while CSLA went strong from the floor connecting on 55% of their shots. CSLA had four players score in double-figures, while the Toros only had Lewis in double-digits with 16. Besides shooting, another area where the Toros were dominated was on the boards. The Golden Eagles outrebounded the Toros 54 to 34. CSUDH fell to 5-10 overall and 3-8 in CCAA action.

Cal State LA def. Cal State Dominguez Hills 75-74 The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team was looking to avenge a 20 point loss to Cal State LA last Wednesday night . Saturday, as the two teams met once again for the second time in four days, the Toros were a point shy, losing the CCAA contest 74-75. The first half was an equal battle. Each team was consistent from the floor, shooting in the 40% range, each team had one player in double-figures, and each team nailed two apiece from long range. In the first twenty, CSLA was 12 of 25 (48%) from the floor, while CSUDH was 14 of 34 (41%) from the field. CSUDH's Kendra Tease, was close behind with ten in the first half. The teams into the locker room at 35-35 tie.The second half looked like it would be all CSUDH. CSUDH kept up a scoring pace for 12 minutes, until the Golden Eagles went on a 24-10 run to take a 75-71 lead with six ticks remaining. A made free throw by the Golden Eagles ahead by four. But in a last ditch effort, CSUDH's Fercia Rambacal threw up a desperation halfcourt shot that bounced off the glass and into the net, to give the fans something to get excited about but the Toros a heartbreaking one point loss.CSUDH was led by Tease who had 19 points and Lewis who added 12. A bright spot for CSUDH Saturday was the rebounding of Nakeisha Perkins. Perkins pulled down a game-high 15 boards to help the Toros dominate in that statistical category 47-34.

TOROS NOTES

  • LEWIS/ TEASE ONLY PLAYERS SCORING IN DOUBLE FIGURES Senior Tracee Lewis and junior Kendra Tease are the only Toros scoring in double figures. Lewis is leading the team, averaging 13.0 ppg with 208 points on the season. Tease has scored 160 points and is tallying 10.0 ppg. The two have combined for 368 of the Toros 935 points this year and are recording 23.1 of the team's 58.4 ppg.
  • PERKINS HAS CAREER NIGHT ON THE BOARDS Junior center Nakeisha Perkins has been dominating the boards all season, and the past game has been no exception. Perkins went up strong in Saturday's matchup against Cal State LA and came down with a season-high and career-high 15 boards. On the season, she has tallied 128 rebounds and is pulling down 7.8 boards per game.
  • SWEET 16 Tracee Lewis has played in and has started all of the Toros 16 games this season. She has been on the court for 560 minutes and is averaging 35 minutes per game.
  • HOME SWEET HOME The Toros seem to feel at home in the Torodome. Of their five wins on the season, all of them have come on their home court.
  • TAKING THEM AWAY Fercia Rambacal is dominating the Toros in one important defensive stat: steals. The senior has taken away 26 on the season, ten more than any other Toro.
  • PERKINS PULLS DOWN 100 Junior center Nakeisha Perkins has hit the century mark in rebounds. Perkins pulled down seven rebounds on the weekend to bring her season total to 100 exactly. She is averaging a team-leading 7. 1boards per game. But look out for senior Christina Tucker who is on Perkins heels in the rebounding game. Perkins needs just six more rebounds to hit the century mark and since she is averaging 6.7 points per game, look for her to do so in this Wednesday's matchup at Cal State LA.
  • TOROS FORCING TURNOVERS Cal State Dominguez Hills is forcing turnovers. The Toros have forced 317 turnovers on the season, including stealing the ball away 134 times. CSUDH is turning the ball over 19.6 times per game, compared to their opponents who are giving the ball away 22.6 times per contest.
