CARSON, Calif.-Taylor Puryear has been named
the Co-Head Athletic Trainer at Cal State Dominguez Hills as
announced by CSUDH Athletics Director Ron Prettyman.
"I am real excited to be able to
get someone with the experience level Taylor brings to our
program," states Prettyman. "He will be able to step in
and help guide a program that has already distinguished itself as
one of the top athletic training programs in the area."
Puryear, a Certified Athletic Trainer, comes to
the program with 25 years of experience in the athletic training
profession. Puryear began his career at Southern California
College (now Vanguard University) as the Head Athletic Trainer in
1977. He worked at SCC up until 1995 where he was also the Chair
of the Department of Exercise Science and an Assistant Professor.
An Oklahoma native, Puryear left Southern
California College in 1996 to take over as the Head Athletic
Trainer and Assistant Professor at Phillips University in
Oklahoma. He served in that capacity up until 1998 when he left
Phillips to become the Head Athletic Trainer at Northwest Oklahoma
Orthopaedic Hospital where he worked until his arrival at CSUDH.
Puryear is a 1976 graduate of Southern
California College where he earned a bachelor's degree in Physical
Education. In 1985, he received his master's degree from Cal State
Fullerton in Physical Education/Athletic Training.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers
Association (NATA) and the American College of Sports Medicine
(ACSM) since 1980, Puryear resides in Irvine, CA with his wife and
three children.
