Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team was looking to end their longest losing streak of the season tonight. The Toros have lost six straight games and tonight they were looking to pick up a win over Cal Poly Pomoma, the NCAA Division II defending National Champions. After staying close to the Broncos in the first half, going into the locker room down by only three 39-36, CSUDH was not able to continue that intensity and consistency in the second 20. At the final buzzer, the Toros found themselves with a 62-83 loss and their seventh straight loss.

The first half found the Toros ready for the challenge of 17-3, 13-2 CCAA Cal Poly Pomona. In the first six minutes of play, CSUDH was only trailing by two and even found themselves tied three times in the first five minutes. CPP built a six point lead at the 11:41 mark, but CSUDH would go on a 14-10 run to bring them to 24 apiece.

The Toros were even able to take a one point lead when senior Tracee Lewis began to heat it up from the field, connecting on one of her four made buckets in the first half. Senior Fercia Rambacal also had a strong first 20, she poured in 11 points and was three of four from the field and four of six from the charity stripe.

One of the reasons that the Toros found themselves in the game at the half was their impressive shooting from the floor. They were 13 of 27 (48%) from the field, compared to the Broncos who were 12 of 33 (36%). CSUDH had two players, Lewis and Rambacal, scoring in double-figures in the first half.

Lauri McIntosh was the only Bronco to post double-figures in the first for CPP. She lead all players with 14.

The second half was all CPP. In fact, they went on a 13-2 run to open the second half. The Toros were inconsistent in the second, making only 22% of their shots. There was also a four minute period when they did not score at all. CPP on the other hand, improved their field goal percentage from 36% to 52%.

Aprile Powell came alive in the second half, dumping in 12 points. Toro Fercia Rambacal, who had 11 points in the first 20, was kept to just two in the second, while Lewis was able to continue what she had going in the first half, adding nine to the Toros scoring drive. In the second half, CSUDH was outscored 44-26.

Part of CPP's second half surge was due to the rebounding game. In the first 20, the Toros held a slight edge at 20-19, but in the second half , the Broncos were able to pull down 24 boards, compared to the 14 grabbed by CSUDH.

McIntosh led all players with 26 points in the victory for CPP. Tracee Lewis finished with a team-high and season- best 22.

CSUDH fell to 5-14 overall and 3-12 in the CCAA. They return to action tomorrow night when they host CS San Bernardino. First tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
