PHOENIX, Ariz.-- The Grand Canyon women's
basketball team recorded their second California Collegiate
Athletic Association (CCAA) win of the season on Saturday night in
Antelope Gym as the Lady 'Lopes defeated Cal State Dominguez
Hills, 60-51.
The Antelopes and visiting Toros batteled back
and forth in the first half for the 25-24, lead in favor of CSUDH
at the break. Grand Canyon slowly built their lead in the second
half, pulling away in the final minutes of the contest for the
60-51 victory.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-16, 4-14 CCAA) was
led by junior center Kendra Tease (Los Angeles, CA) with her
double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the night. Senior
guard Fercia Rambacal (San Gabriel, CA) was the only other Toro in
double figures with 12 points as she shot 100 percent from three
point land, making all three of her attempts.
Grand Canyon's senior guard LeAnne Rodrigues
led all scorers with 21 points for the night, shooting 50 percent
from behind the three point line (3 for 6). Sophomore wing Crystal
Stephens was the only other 'Lope in double figures for the night
with 11 points, while pulling down four boards. Canyon's junior
wing Leah Smith chipped in nine points in the win.
The Toros next outing is Friday night at San
Francisco State.
