TOROS HEAD NORTH THIS WEEKEND The Cal
State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team will head up to the
Bay Area this weekend as they are set to take on San Francisco
State and Sonoma State. First up for the Toros will be the Gators
of SFSU on Friday, followed by the Cossacks of Sonoma State on
Saturday.
HEAD COACH VAN GIRARD Coach Girard
enters his fourteenth season at the helm of the Toros basketball
program. In this time, Girard has posted a 177-173 record. He has
led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA conference titles (1994-96), and
has been named CCAA Coach of the Year five times, including three
in a row (1993-1996). Girard has coached one All-American, two
All-West Region players, three CCAA MVP's and 29 all-conference
players. His first win at the collegiate coaching level came on
November 25, 1988, when he led CSUDH to a 82-68 victory against
Incarante Word.

A LOOK AT THIS WEEK'S TEAMS
- SCOUTING THE GATORS
San Francisco State (9-14, 6-12 CCAA): The Gators are
coming off three straight losses. They are led on the season by
Jennifer Kutz who is averaging 10.5 ppg.
The Last Time We Met: The last time that these teams met
was on January 12, 2002 when CSUDH handed SFSU a 68-61 loss.
The Series: CSUDH leads the series 11-4.
Girard vs. SFSU: Van Girard is 9-4 vs. the Gators.

- SCOUTING THE COSSACKS
Sonoma State University (16-5, 12-4 CCAA): SSU is coming
into this weekend's games on a six game win streak. They are led
by Jessica Jones who is averaging 12.9 ppg.
The Last Time We Met: The last time that these teams met
was on January 11, 2002, when the Cossacks posted a 57-47 win
over CSUDH.
The Series: CSUDH leads the series 14-8.
Girard vs. SSU: Van Girard is 7-8 vs. the Cossacks.
Cossack Head Coach: Mark Rigby is at the helm of the
Cossack women's basketball program.
TEASE IS BIG ON THE BOARDS THIS WEEKEND
Despite the two losses, junior center Kendra Tease dominated the
boards this past weekend. Tease had a game-high 15 boards in the
loss to UCSD on Friday and then pulled down 10 in the Toros loss
to GCU. Tease is currently second on the team in rebounding with
135 total boards and is averaging 6.1 rpg.
RAMBACAL IS PERFECT FROM DOWNTOWN
Fercia Rambacal was perfect from long range in the Toros matchup
with Grand Canyon University on Saturday. The senior guard was a
perfect 3 of 3 from behind the arc. On the season, Rambacal is 16
of 40 (40%) to lead the squad from three -point land.
A TEAM OF THIEVES The Toros are a team
of thieves. They have 218 steals on the season compared to their
opponents who have tallied 179. Fercia Rambacal is leading all
players with 32 steals, while senior guard Tracee Lewis is not far
behind with 29.
STILL LOOKING FOR ROAD WIN With most of
the season behind them, the Toros are still searching for their
first road win. CSUDH has not posted a win on an away court all
season. They are 0-9 on foreign courts. They have their last
chance to pick up a road win when they travel to San Francisco
State and Sonoma State this weekend. The Toros defeated SFSU this
season in the Torodome, but loss to SSU.
LEWIS PUTS UP BIG NUMBERS VS. POMONA
Senior guard Tracee Lewis had a big night in the loss to Cal Poly
Pomona. Lewis tied a season-best 22 points in the game. She was 7
of 17 from the floor, including being 2 of 5 from downtown. Lewis
was also 6 of 7 from the line. This was the second time on this
season that she has scored above 20 points. On the season, she is
averaging 12.5 ppg.
LINE LEADER Tracee Lewis is leading the
Toros from the free throw line. The senior guard is 24 of 109
(77%) from the charity stripe. Earlier this season, Lewis set a
new school record for free throws made in a game (13) and free
throw percentage (1.000) in the Toros victory over San Francisco
State.
NINE TOROS TAKING THE BALL AWAY Nine
members of the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team
are posting double-figure steals. Fercia Rambacal is leading the
charge with 32 steals on the season, while Lewis is close behind
with 29. Christina Tucker, Kendra Tease, Monique Marquez, Adriana
Mendez, Nakeisha Perkins, Tomica Coleman and Moneisha Washington
are the other Toros tallying double-figure steals this season.
TOUGH ON THE OFFENSIVE BOARDS The Toros
are one of the top teams on the offensive boards. CSUDH is
outrebounding their opponents on the offensive boards 313-262 in
all games, and dominating in conference games 268-208. Nakeisha
Perkins is leading all players on the offensive boards with 108
rebounds overall and 52 boards in CCAA games.
LEWIS CONTINUES TO BE OUT IN FRONT Tracee
Lewis continues to be the top Toros scorer, by far. Lewis is the
only player tallying double-figure points per game with 12.5. She
has scored 2 70 points on the season and is one of only two Toros
scoring in the 200 range.
IT IS "200" FOR TEASE Kendra
Tease has finally reached the 200 points on the season mark. Tease
dumped in 23 points on the weekend to move her season total
scoring to 207. She is second on the squad in total scoring and
points per game average with 9.4 ppg.
