TOROS TO CLOSE OUT 2001-02 SEASON AT HOME The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team will wrap up its 2001-02 season at home this weekend, as they host Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, followed by the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday. Saturday night's game will mark the end of the collegiate career's for four seniors. First tip in each game is slated for 5:30 p.m.

HEAD COACH VAN GIRARD Coach Girard enters his fourteenth season at the helm of the Toros basketball program. In this time, Girard has posted a 177-173 record. He has led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA conference titles (1994-96), and has been named CCAA Coach of the Year five times, including three in a row (1993-1996). Girard has coached one All-American, two All-West Region players, three CCAA MVP's and 29 all-conference players. His first win at the collegiate coaching level came on November 25, 1988, when he led CSUDH to a 82-68 victory against Incarante Word.

  • SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
    CS Bakersfield (21-4, 17-3 CCAA): The 'Runners enjoy national ranking as well as being one of the top teams in the CCAA. They are led on the season by Heather Garay, who is leading the squad with 24.9 ppg.
    Last Time We Met: The last time that these teams met was on January 19, 2002 when CSUB handed CSUDH a 62-77 loss.
    The Series: CSUB holds a 3-0 record over the Toros.
    Girard vs. CSUB: Van Girard is 0-3 vs. the 'Runners.
    'Runner Head Coach: Tim Lakose is in his first season at CSUB.

    CS Stanislaus (10-15, 7-13 CCAA): The Warriors are coming off losses to Chico and UC Davis this past weekend. They are led on the season by Shannon Donnelly who is averaging 17.0 ppg.
    The Last Time We Met: The last time that these teams met was on January 18, 2002 in Turlock, when the host Warriors defeated the Toros 40-59.
    The Series: The series is in an 8-8 tie.
    Girard vs. CSUS: Van Girard is 8-8 vs. the Warriors.
    Warrior Head Coach: The Warriors are under first-year head coach Mike Raugust.

LEWIS WILL WIND UP IN TOROS TOP TEN With only two games left in her career, Tracee Lewis will wrap up her career at CSUDH as one of the most proficient scorers in school history. On her career, Lewis has scored 983 points in her four years in a Toros jersey, placing her seventh on the Toros all-time career scoring charts. Lewis had the best scoring performance of her career in the 2000-2001 season when she scored 30 points in a CSUDH win over SFSU.

RAMBACAL STEALS HER WAY INTO THE RECORD BOOKS Fercia Rambacal will be playing the final games of her career this weekend. And if she has it her way, she will do it her way, by adding more steals to her already impressive career record. In four years, Rambacal has tallied 146 steals in 98 games to average 1.5 steals per game. The guard has set the the CSUDH school record for steals in a game with eight, two times in her career.

A TEAM OF THIEVES The Toros are a team of thieves. They have 233 steals on the season compared to their opponents who have tallied 200. Fercia Rambacal is leading all players with 35 steals, while senior guard Tracee Lewis is not far behind with 32.

FROM DOWNTOWN Rambacal is leading the team from long range. The guard is 18 of 44 (40%) from behind the arc to lead the squad. On her career, Rambacal has nailed 64 three pointers, and has scored 629 points.

LINE LEADER Tracee Lewis is leading the Toros from the free throw line. The senior guard is 93 of 121 (77%) from the charity stripe. Earlier this season, Lewis set a new school record for free throws made in a game (13) and free throw percentage (1.000) in the Toros victory over San Francisco State.

THREE TOROS ARE TOUGH ON THE BOARDS Three Toros, Nakeisha Perkins, Christina Tucker and Kendra Tease, have been solid on the boards. The three have combined for 456 of the Toros 889 rebounds on the season.

LEWIS MAKES IT 300 With 31 points on the weekend, Tracee Lewis has become the first player to score 300 points this season. In 2000-01 as a junior, the guard poured in 322 points. In her final two games of her collegiate career, Lewis needs to score 22 points to bring her 2001-02 season total to 323 and make her senior season her top scoring one.

ONE FOR THE ROAD? For the first time in the history of the CSUDH women's basketball program, the Toros were left without a road win. With the Toros two remaining games of the season at home, they will post an 0-11 road record.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE OFFENSIVE BOARDS CS Dominguez Hills is dominating the offensive boards. Junior center Kendra Tease is leading the offensive boards, pulling down 66 on the season. Senior forward Christina Tucker is not far behind with 60. The Toros are outrebounding their opponents for second chance shots, 335 to 288.

DISHING IT OUT Not only is Tracee Lewis leading the team in points, points per game, free throws and minutes, she is also the queen of dish. Lewis has dished out 66 assists on the season to average 2.8 assists per game.
