CARSON, Calif.-The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team was coming into today's CCAA doubleheader with CS San Bernardino off an upset over top-ranked UC San Diego yesterday, but the Coyotes also had victory in their eyes as they upset CS Bakersfield yesterday as well. And at the end of the day, both teams came out with a win, splitting the series 1-1.

The first game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, with Danielle Proctor leading things off with a single to left center. Danielle Stronks would sacrifice Proctor to second as senior 3B Ro Lutz took the plate. Lutz drove a single down the left field line and advanced to second on an error, that moved Proctor to third. The hits would continue as Daisy Flores singled to left that scored Proctor and Lutz.

The Coyotes hits were sporadic coming the in second, third and sixth innings. Valerie Long was strong in the circle today as the freshman hurler won her first game of the season. Long went the distance, giving up four hits and no runs for the shutout.

The Toros would strike again in the fifth when Courtney Woltz who nailed her first double of the season and reached third on an error, scored at home on a wild pitch by Coyote hurler Dawn Onishi.

The Toros picked up the 3-0 shutout, recording six hits in the game. It was a different story in the second game as the Toros bats seemed to go cold. The Toros who tallied six hits the first game were held to three in the second by Onishi who went the distance for the win.

CSUDH was in the arm of senior hurler Lisa Monreal. Monreal was near perfect until and error in the top of the fifth put a Coyote on base. The Toros defense would stay strong, not allowing that run to score.

But in the sixth inning, it was CSUSB's chance. The Coyotes had back to back singles by Jamie Killeen and Karly Romo, and these runners were advanced by Leticia Gutierrez. The Coyotes got a single by Kristen Garcia that would drive Killen home. They would end the inning with an 1-0 advantage.

The Coyotes pitching staff did not allow a Toro hit after that point. CSUSB pulled off the 1-0 win. Lisa Monreal was charged the loss for the Toros in the game, while Onishi posted the win.
