CARSON, Calif.- The Cal State Dominguez Hills
men's soccer team, who finished as the NCAA II runner-up last
year, are ranked No. 1 in the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA) poll which was released earlier today.
CSUDH made its second consecutive appearance in
the national championship game last year, only to lose to 2-1 to
the University of Tampa in the final minutes. The Toros finished
the season with a 20-3-1 record.
The CSUDH women's team, which lost in the
opening round of the NCAA playoffs last year, is ranked No. 18 in
the preseason poll. The squad completed the 2001 campaign with the
identical No. 18 ranking. The Toros finished the season with a
15-5-1 record and claimed the CCAA Central Division Championship.
The 2002 season schedule will kick-off on
August 29 with the men hosting Alliant University at 1:00 p.m. The
women's team travels to Costa Mesa to take on Vanguard University
in a night contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
