CARSON, Calif.- Cal State Dominguez Hills
goalkeepers Javier Barragan and Alba Garcia have been named the
Brine California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's and
Women's Soccer Player's of the Week for the week of September 9-15
as announced by the league office today.
Barragan, a 6-0 junior from Long Beach Jordan
HS, allowed no goals and made 6 saves in 180 minutes to lead the
third-ranked Toros to shutouts over Cal State Stanislaus and Cal
State Bakersfield last week. He tallied 3 saves in a 2-0 win over
Stanislaus, then made 2 spectacular saves (3 total) to preserve a
2-0 win at Bakersfield.
Garcia, a 5-8 junior from Don Lugo HS, earned 2
shutouts, made 16 saves and allowed just one goal in 310 minutes
and three matches last week. She opened the week with 10 saves,
several of which required extra effort, to preserve a 0-0 double
overtime tie with Biola. Garcia then made 4 saves in a 3-0 win
over Cal State Stanislaus. She followed with 2 saves and allowed 1
goal in a 1-1 double overtime draw at Cal State Bakersfield. In
the three games, Garcia compiled a 0.29 goals against average.
