Sept. 21 UCR Highlander Invitational Riverside, CA

TOROS AT FRESNO The Cal State Dominguez Hills cross-country team was in action Saturday at the Fresno State Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno. The Toros were competing among top Division I and II teams, as well as many CCAA opponents. CSUDH finished in 13th place with a team score of 383. Toro Aracne Hernandez was the top finisher for CSUDH with a time of 20:06 on the 3.1 mile course. Victoria Flores, who was the top CSUDH finisher last week, clocked in at 21:08. The rest of the team, checked in as follows: Sherron Rhetta 24:11, Kendria Spratt 24:26, Peace Udechukwa 24:37, Isha Sehpard 25:34, and Olapeju Ajibola 26:36.

KEY EXPERIENCE TO PUSH TOROS Lack of experience should not be a problem for the CSUDH cross country squad this season, as the Toros roster features seven seniors out of 11 athletes. The remaining four players do not lack in the experience department either, coming into the 2002 season as juniors.

HERNANDEZ AT THE HELM Aracne Hernandez, who has been with the Toros since her freshman campaign in 1999, proved this past weekend that she is ready to lead the Toro pack across the finish line this season. Hernandez was the Toros top runner on Saturday, clocking in with a time of 20:06.

HEAD COACH WARREN EDMONSON Coach Edmonson begins his first season as head coach of the Cal State Dominguez Hills cross country program after serving as the top assistant last season. Edmonson, who also heads the Track and Field program at CSUDH, comes to the Carson campus with a wealth of collegiate and international track and field experience. An Oakland native, Edmonson was a standout at UCLA, where he excelled at the 100 meter race, capturing the Pac 8 Championship and the NCAA Championship in that event. This year, Edmonson was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame for his successes on the track during his three seasons as a Bruin. After his collegiate career, Edmonson brought his talents to the indoor world circuit. In 1973, Edmonson set the world record in the 100 meters, followed by co-holding the world record in the 70 meters in 1974.
