CARSON, Calif.- The Cal State Dominguez Hills
women's soccer team matched every play of the nationally-ranked UC
San Diego Tritons in the CCAA matchup on Sunday at Toro Field, but
a well-placed shot to beat the keeper ended the match in the third
minute of overtime giving the Tritons the 2-1 win.
CSUDH was the first squad to strike, when in
the 25th minute of action Toro Norma Gutierrez took control of a
loose ball and placed it by the far post for the 1-0 lead. The
Toro defense would stay strong as CSUDH preserved that lead into
the half.
But the Tritons, ranked second in the nation,
would not go down quietly as they scored in the 55th minute.
Triton Kristen Conahan placed a header in the back of the net for
the 1-1 tie. The end of 90 saw a 1-1 tie with the teams ready to
go into sudden victory OT.
In the third minute of overtime play, UCSD's
Amy Goker, off an assist from Lindsay Treankler, drew CSUDH's
keeper Alba Garcia out of the box and popped a shot over her head
to close out the game with the Tritons 2-1 win.
The Toros fell to 6-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in
CCAA play. UCSD improved to 7-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference
action. |
