BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- Kim Acino scored from the
goalmouth just over two minutes into the second half, giving Cal
State University Dominguez Hills a 2-1 victory over Western
Washington University in a womens soccer game Sunday at
Civic Stadium.
Forward Stephanie Holt scored the opening goal
of the game for Western, which fell to 5-6-1. CSUDH improved to
7-3-3.
Holt opened the scoring in the eighth minute,
heading in Jessica Sabados flick off an Amy Bouska free kick
from eight yards out. It was Holts second goal of the
season, and her second in the last two games.
But the Toros tied the score in the 29th minute
on their first shot of the game. Kristen Walsh won a ball near the
right side of the penalty area and fired a cross to Chantel
Eastwood, who scored her first goal of the year with a header that
went just inside the left post.
CSUDH got the game-winner shortly after
halftime, as Acino knocked in a cross from Michelle Sena for her
fourth goal of the season.
Western, which had a 12-8 edge in shots, had
its best chance to tie on a free kick by Bouska from 25 yards out
that curled over the defensive wall, forcing a save from Toro
goalkeeper Alba Garcia.
The Toros return to Carson for a two-match
homestand beginning Friday with Sonoma State. Start is 12:30 p.m.
