Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Sonoma State
Seawolves deal blow to CSUDH postseason chances with CCAA win
October 11, 2002

Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.- Sonoma State broke a 1-1 tie in the 66th minute to forge a 2-1 win over host Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association action today at Toro Field.

SSU (8-5-0, 4-4-0 CCAA) struck first in the first half when Megan Morrow took advantage of Toros goalie Alba Garcia's (Don Lugo HS) defensive miscue. At 30:33, Garcia came out of the box to clear a ball, but she missed the kick allowing Morrow to steal the ball and score the open-netter.

It stayed that way until the second half, when CSUDH (7-4-3, 4-3-1 CCAA) tallied the equalizer. Midfielder Tanya Wilson (Palm Springs HS) collected a loose ball in front of the goalmouth and hit her shot to the far post making it 1-1.

But the Seawolves came back with the game-winner nine minutes later when Adriana Diaz took a beautiful right side cross from Lenee Biles and headed her shot to the near post at 65:52.

The Toros would pressure forward the rest of the way, but the Sonoma defense was able to hold on for the 2-1 win. In the game, CSUDH outshot SSU 16-11 including a 9-4 advantage in the second half.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 6 in the latest regional polls, will have to get a lot of help if they are to advance to NCAA postseason play. The Top-3 teams in the region advance and today's setback against No. 7 regionally ranked Sonoma certainly dimmed the Toros chances with six games left in the regular season.

Cal State Dominguez Hills is back in CCAA action on Sunday hosting San Francisco State. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 PM.
